On Monday, Jan. 22, the Lincoln Southwest boys bowling team set a school record, bowling a 253 Baker game in their win against Lincoln Northeast at Hollywood Bowl 253-186. It also placed the team 10th overall on the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) leaderboard.
“A baker game is when you have five of your teammates bowling during 10 frames,” senior Jackson Keele said. “Each teammate will bowl two frames. If you bowl the first frame, you would also bowl the sixth frame and so on.”
The team didn’t realize that they had the possibility to set a record until their coach, Mr. Ryan Hickson, told them during the ninth frame.
“Our coach came over and told us that we have a chance to set a team record,” senior Ryan Hendrickson said. “Once we knew that we could set a record, we were more focused than normal.”
The team also competed in the Heartland Athletic Conference Championship on Wednesday, Jan. 24, they won their first match versus Southeast 3-2, but lost their second match to East 3-1. Overall the team placed third.
