The Lincoln Southwest girls basketball team currently holds a record of 12-2, with an 8-2 record in district play. With just eight games left in the regular season, the team looks to finish off strong.
“I think we can create separation by just getting wins wherever we can,” junior Hayden Rathe said. “We play a lot of good teams this weekend, so we just need to make sure we go up to another level.”
Two players have stood out, sophomore Eleanor Griffin and senior Kennadi Williams. Griffin is second on the team in points, averaing 8.3 a a game, rebounds, averaging 4.2 a game, and three-point percentage, shooting 41% from beyond the arc, while also leading the team in blocks, with .9 a game. Williams leads the team in points, averaging 16 a game, field goal percentage, at 44%, and assists, at 2.9 a game. Even though two players lead the team in most statistical categories, the key to success for the team seems to be teamwork itself.
“Yes, but also everyone contributes,” Griffin said. “It’s not just the statistics, it’s the little things that all of the other players do as well.”
The team’s next game will be Friday, Jan. 26, on the road against the Lincoln East Spartans, a district opponent, at Lincoln East. Tip-off will be at 5:45 p.m.
