Students used to receive their IDs right after they took their pictures on Readiness Day, but in the 2024-2025 school year, students received their IDs with their previous year’s picture.
IDs are an important form of identification that Lincoln Southwest uses. Students get their IDs at the beginning of the year and are expected to wear them throughout the school day. IDs are used to get into the building, get lunch, check out books, and check in to the counselor’s office. Security is posted at the door every morning ready to scan every student’s ID.
New IDs will be given to the students the week of Aug. 26 with their updated photos. The new IDs will also contain the athletic/activities icon if they purchased an annual pass for the 2024-2025 school year.
“We see pictures, we can match it with you. You come in, everybody is pretty much trained to scan when they come in the door, no matter what time of the day,” Ms. Lori Spivey said. “And it’s so helpful to make it accountable because we can kind of trace you with reports and where you scanned in the building.”
Security handles all things IDs. If an individual has lost their ID or if they forgot it, they can check with security and they will provide a temporary or an entirely new ID for $3. Students and staff cannot enter the building without an ID.
“I did like it when students had to keep their IDs on their person at all times. I have had to unlock doors for kids who forget their IDs at lunch,” Dr. Angela Kramer said. “My biggest problem tends to be the behavior with kids using their lanyards to be a disruption for the classroom environment.”
Lincoln Southwest started printing IDs that needed to be scanned in the fall of 2007, but students and staff have always had IDs since the start of the school.
“I like it because it makes me feel like I’m part of the school, and I put my keys and stuff on it,” freshman Ivy Srb said.“I guess one of the things I don’t like is that I always have to remember it every day. When I think I forgot it like I left it in my backpack or something. I start to get stressed out.”
