Southwest Students Get Into Homecoming Spirit
September 23, 2022
From Sept. 19-23, students and staff had the opportunity to show off their school spirit. Students and staff at Southwest participated in the Lincoln Southwest Spirit Week. Each day of the week had a different theme for the school to dress up. The themes allowed for students and staff to show off their individuality through their own outfits. The Spirit Week attempted to build excitement about the upcoming Homecoming football game and the Homecoming dance.
On Monday, Sept. 19, students got to pick whether they would be wearing “Country or Country Club” outfits. Then on Tuesday, the theme was “Hawaiian”. On Wednesday, students wore pajamas to school. Thursday, the day of the pep rally and football game, the theme was “Southwest Silver Hawk” gear. Lastly, on Friday, students got to dress up even before the actual Homecoming dance with the theme “Fancy Friday”, to prepare for the Homecoming Dance.
“I myself have never participated in it (Spirit Week),” senior Maddie Auxier said. “I think that it’s a good way to show school spirit and a fun way to get ready for homecoming.”
This year for Homecoming, the Emeralds were tasked with the job of coming up with the Spirit Week concepts.
“Spirit Week is a great way to show school spirit and be enthusiastic together,” senior Neva Kushner said. “It is also a fun way to showcase your personality through quirky outfits.”
The Homecoming dance will take place this Friday, on Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. in the Southwest gym. The Homecoming tickets will be sold before school, during lunch and after school on Mon. 19 (afternoon only), Tues. 20, Wed. 21, and Thurs. 22 (before School and during lunch). They are $10 a piece. When attending the dance guests will need to bring their school ID or photo ID at the door the night of the dance.
