Southwest Falls With Explosive Offensive Night By Rockets
January 24, 2020
The Lincoln Southwest boys varsity basketball team lost to Lincoln Northeast High School 68-53 at LSW on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020.
This was a rematch of a game played earlier this year on January 2, where the Silver Hawks narrowly lost 69-72. Unfortunately, LSW was unable to avenge this loss.
“That is as good as a team has looked offensively against Southwest in my time here,” said Southwest’s head coach, Alex Bahe. “They picked us apart… For whatever reason we just had a really hard time keeping their guards in front and then they offensive rebounded really well.”
Lincoln Northeast was led in scoring by senior Carson Busch who had 21 points and was closely followed by Pierce Bazil with 18. These were both players who combined to score 42 points the last time the two teams faced off and were able to have another strong performance.
In addition, the Hawks were out rebounded 31-15. This helped lead to many transition buckets for the Rockets and shot attempts closer to the hoop. This stat might explain LNE’s above average field goal percentage of 51%. However, in addition, this prevented Southwest for taking advantage of their own transition game.
“Them being so good offensively tonight made it a half court game for us,” said Bahe. “We want to get out in transition and that can be where we get guys like Jared [Bohrer] and Brayton [Christenson] going and we couldn’t get any transition points because we could not get stops.”
The next outing for Southwest will be a road trip to Kearney High School on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020 at 5:15 p.m.
