If any student is interested in being a student ambassador, they must fill out a form by Friday, Aug. 30. Students can use the jump code BVOL on the Lincoln Public Schools home page. If an individual was a previous LSW ambassador they must reapply.
“We are a high school of over 2,000 students so there are a lot of people here in the building. Having that welcoming committee, a smiling face on your first day can help feel less intimidating,” Mrs. Lindsey Augustine said. “Southwest has an amazing group of kids, and it’s a way for our students here to show that we are kind and empathetic.”
LSW Student Ambassadors has been around since 2019 officially, but their previous title was Students Helping Silver Hawk Students (SHOS). The title was changed due to ambassadors being able to help welcome new families as well to the community, not just students.
“I love being an ambassador because it’s fun to meet new students and be able to show them around,” senior Mary Beth Hart said. “I love Future Hawk Night and seeing the new class that will come in.”
Ambassadors help during Future Hawk Night, where eighth grade families tour LSW as well as Freshman Day, where ambassadors are able to help new ninth graders find their classes and feel welcome to the school.
“You, as students, know the school in a completely different way than we do,” Augustine said. “You might know tips and tricks of how to navigate the hallways, to get places, what teachers you like, what subjects you enjoy and how to navigate the lunchroom. You guys have a much more unique perspective than I think we do as adults.”
