Lincoln Southwest’s competing show choirs, Resonance and Ambience, will be traveling to the Wheaton Warrenville South Choral Classic, on Saturday, March 9. Including Resonance and Ambience, 15 mixed groups will be competing, as well as eight all-girls groups and two all-boys groups.
Of the 15 mixed groups competing, only four will qualify for finals, along with three all-girls or all-boys groups.
“In order to place in the top four, we all need to work together. We need to have no negative energy between each other,” senior Christian Lawrence said. “We need to support each other, that motivation will really drive us to be a top four group.”
Resonance has only competed against three varsity groups from outside of Nebraska this season. Going into Wheaton Warrenville South, Resonance and Ambience will be the only Nebraska groups attending. Wheaton Warrenville South will feature groups from seven states including Nebraska, Illinois, California, Indiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and South Dakota.
“I believe that Resonance can leave a good impression of Nebraska show choir on the rest of the world of show choir,” senior Kate Roesch said. “Us going to Wheaton Warrenville South shows that we can do big things even though we’re from Nebraska.”
Without a prep division, Ambience will be competing in the open mixed division for the first time this season as one of only two prep division groups attending.
“We’re looking at the competition as a way to show our show to people who haven’t seen it before,” sophomore Chance Ready said. “We understand there will be lots of good competition, but we know we’ll do our best and try to place as high as we can.”
The Wheaton Warrenville South Choral Classic is the last competition of the season. Next Year, Resonance and Ambience will be competing at Norris Field of Talent, Lincoln Northwest Capital City Classic, Omaha Westside Competition of Excellence, Standing Bear Showcase and Blue Valley Tiger Takedown in Overland Park, Kansas.
