The JV track and field relay took place on Friday, March 22, at Lincoln Southwest and started at 2:00 p.m. Some schools that the Hawks completed against were Lincoln Southeast, Syracuse, Crete and Waverly. Pole vault were not competing. There were five different field events and 10 different relay races.
Students who worked at the JV meet were going to yell out the names for the people who were upon deck. They had prepared clipboards with the names of the JV participants.
“This week is the start of both JV and Varsity meets,” junior Nifemi Bankole said. “In order to really stand out they want to represent self-confidence and group confidence.”
Bankole is a triple jumper from the varsity track team who was a worker at the JV meet.
Every week, track and field chooses a word to inspire them. Last week’s words were self-confidence and group confidence.
With last week being the first JV meet, a lot of people were nervous for their first time competing. That is why the coaches chose the word confidence in order to inspire participants.
“Even when you are feeling a little bit nervous, you can still have confidence,” coach Matt James said. “You’ve been working hard, you’ve been preparing yourself, you’re able to do this.”
