On Saturday, Jan. 7, Lincoln Southwest’s varsity show choir, Resonance, broke the group’s record for most grand championships in a season. With a win at the Lincoln East Spartan Spectacular competition, Resonance achieves their third, first place finish of the season.
“Breaking the record felt amazing,” junior Maddox Schreiner said. “No other Resonance has done that before, so it’s good to know that everyone I’m with broke the record with me.”
In six separate years, Resonance has finished their competition season with two grand championships. Going into final awards, the opportunity of making history became apparent.
“I was able to watch the other groups performing, and I saw the level of work they put into their shows. I was scared that we wouldn’t be able to pull through and win,” senior Cassidy Srery said. “But then I reminded myself that we have put in equal amounts of work, and we are as good as them.”
Resonance competes two more times this season. The first is Norris Fields of Talent, and the second, at the Wheaton Warrenville South Choral Classic in Chicago, Illinois.
“Going into the rest of the season, I feel very competitive,” Srery said. “I want to continue our streak of winning, and put in even more work and dedication into this show.”
