The ninth Takedown for the Troops took place in the LSW main gym Wednesday, Jan. 17. The wrestling team’s annual charitable event raised $2,900 for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization.
“The most outstanding folks at this event were the veterans and active military who were in the attendance,” head wrestling coach Mr. Aaron Finley said. “I think the DAV is an organization that often times doesn’t get much consideration in terms of fundraising, so I thought it would be worthwhile endeavor for a group that doesn’t get much publicity.”
One of the few girls wrestlers at Takedown for the Troops was sophomore Taylor Siefken. Although her opponent forfeited before her match, Siefken was still ecstatic to be there for her team and the fans.
“It (the tournament) was just like overall a happy place to be in,” Siefken said. “My favorite part was seeing all the fans that showed up and watching my teammates wrestle.”
The girl’s and boy’s varsity wrestling team has their next match Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 5:00 p.m. at Lincoln East High School.
