On Monday, Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m, the combined winter concert for orchestra, band and choir will take place in the main gym at Southwest. All music ensembles except jazz band and show choir will be performing at this concert.
Freshman band, symphonic band and wind ensemble will be performing holiday music individually at the concert.
“I like playing our Christmas music,” sophomore Kainoa Holland said. “It’s not too hard, and I think it’s still fun.”
In addition, there will be some groups combining to create larger ensembles for a few different pieces. The freshman, prep and varsity orchestras, as well as some orchestra winds, will form a symphony orchestra ensemble and will not perform individually. Chamber orchestra and chamber choir will perform a piece together called, “The Lamb,” in addition to their own sets. A large ensemble, featuring all the choirs and wind ensemble, will sing a Swahili piece called, “Baba Yetu.”
“The thing I’m looking forward to most is singing with the wind ensemble during ‘Baba Yetu,” freshman Cortney Nield said. “I like singing in choir because I don’t have to think too hard about it.”
Student-led a cappella groups Hawktet, Quicksilvers and Silver Lining will sing one song each. Freshman choir, mixed concert choir and varsity concert choir will be performing a variety of holiday music.
The event is free to attend and open to anyone.
