On Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m, Arnold Elementary hosted Nature Night. Advance Placement (AP) environmental studies students and Hive Helpers leadership attended Nature Night to run booths. Nature Night is an event run by Lower Platte South Natural Resource District and the event invites families and students to participate in nature-themed activities and hands-on learning.
Hive Helpers ran a booth as community volunteers. That means their booth was already planned out by director of Environmental Education, McKenzie Barry. Mr. Charley Bittle’s AP environmental studies students were given the task of creating a booth. Some booths that were created by students taught kids about birds or box turtles.
“Watching the interaction between my students and the community is really neat to see,” Bittle said. “The students also get to create their own activities as well. Students will help promote sustainability.”
Hive Helpers worked with kids to teach them about spiders while also making a craft.
“It’s a great way for us to get more community outreach,” junior Elizabeth Napolitano said. “ It was fun to get them (students) involved with sustainability in a fun way.”
The next Nature Night will be in November.
