A meeting for incoming freshman musicians took place on Wednesday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lincoln Southwest Auditorium.
The meeting addressed the questions some people had about the Southwest music activities and provided information about the opportunities students have while being enrolled in a music course.
“We talked about what our ensembles look like against other classes and activities,” Andrew Jacobson, assistant choir director and show choir director said. “We communicated that so parents and students are able to understand how scheduling in high school works while being on a block schedule.”
The meeting also discussed the similarities and differences of high school music courses with middle school music courses.
“The jump from middle school to high school is sometimes scary for students and even for parents,” Alyssa Wilhelm, band director said. “The meeting was a great way for teachers to let parents and incoming freshmen know that this is a wonderful place to be.”
The supplies that students need for being enrolled in music courses were also discussed in the meeting.
Students who are unable to attend the meeting are able to access the LSW Band website , the LSW Vocal Music website along with the LSW Show Choir website if incoming freshmen want to be involved in show choir activities, and the LSW Orchestra website to get more information about the musical courses at Southwest.
