Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a club at LSW. They compete in different competitions relating to FCCLA purposes. They focus on helping the community by having different categories anywhere from community service projects to focusing on projects to help children.
It is an important club to the members, because not only can they spend time together with their friends but they also take part in projects that can help the community.
“FCCLA is very important to me, because my friends are also in that club and it is very fun,” junior Elizabeth Falcone said. “It’s a nice environment and you get to miss school for the conferences.”
The club is sponsored by Mrs. McKenzie Geier and Ms. Sarah Morrow. Their club president is Senior Aubrey Bailey.
“FCCLA is awesome because it helps me build my leadership skills,” senior Annabel Zaruba said. “FCCLA hopes to improve communication skills that you will need for your future.”
Each year, FCCLA has a new theme. This year’s theme is “blazing new paths.” Next year they will have a new theme to help them become better leaders in the future.
“We competed in the ‘focus on children’ category and we were in level three because we are juniors,” junior Khloe Swanson said. “We taught kids about winter safety and then we took all of our project impact and turned it into a poster board.”
Swanson and junior Kaylie Phillips were to speak on their topic for ten minutes at districts. They earned a silver award, placed first at district and made it to State.
FCCLA competed at State from Sunday, April 7, to Tuesday, April 9, at the Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Awards at State
Gold medal – juniors Jack McCormick and Jada Frank (Built mini libraries in the community)
Silver medal – senior Annabel Zaruba, Bailey (Promoting FCCLA in the community)
Silver medal – Swanson, Phillips (Winter safety for kids)
Silver medal – juniors Paige Pomajzl, Amelia Burba and Falcone (Health awareness and raised money)
Through these star projects, which FCCLA competes with at districts and at state, four members qualified for Nationals. Bailey, McCormick, Zaruba and Frank will go to nationals at Seattle, WA.
