On Thursday, Feb. 22, the Japanese Club at Lincoln Southwest held a Valentine’s Day themed cookie competition from 3:10 p.m. – 4 p.m. in room A213. It costs $2 to decorate a cookie, 50 cents for an extra cookie and 25 cents for an extra vote.
“We voted by giving out tickets to people so they could vote who they wanted to win,” senior co-president Nura Hassan said. “Seeing everybody’s designs and how creative people were with their cookies was really fun.”
The first place winner of the competition was senior Lesly Fonseca Ramos. That made two cookies decorated like flowers. Some of the other club members made heart decorated cookies, some with the Japanese flag.
“My favorite part of decorating the cookies and seeing everyone’s creativity, because everyone got to express themselves,” Fonseca Ramos said. “It’s a friendly competition, I guess mine looked best out of everyone’s opinion, but I really like everyone else’s cookies.”
The co-presidents of Japanese Club choose what to do for each Valentines Day each year. This year they decided to decorate cookies and last year they decided to make chocolate fondue.
