From Monday, April 1, to Friday, April 5, Lincoln Southwest celebrated Hope Week. Each day there was a different theme, so students and teachers could celebrate Hope Week. Hope Week is based off of Hope Day which in 2024 is celebrated on Wednesday, April 3.
“Hope Week is what we are trying to create for more awareness to students on how they can manage their mental health and manage self care while promoting Hope Squad,” counselor Logan Waite said. “Hope Squad’s goal is to have that peer to peer connection with students that might be struggling with mental health but also making connections in school.”
Monday, April. 1, the theme for Hope Week was Get Active Day (wear your favorite team gear), Tuesday, April. 2, Hawk Unity Day (wear LSW gear), Wednesday, April. 3, Hope Day (wear red and white), Thursday, April. 4, Future Goals Day (dress like your future self) and on Friday, April. 5, the theme was Self Care Day (wear pajamas or comfortable clothes).
“Hope Squad is a peer to peer suicide prevention group that aims to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevetion,” junior Anna Deutsch said. “Hope Week is a great idea. It shows the potential of Hope Squad to make a positive impact in the community.”
Hope Squad members are nominated by other students that think they would be good at helping people through hard times.
“Technically Hope Day is on Wednesday and it is like a LPS thing,” Waite said. “We just kind of adopted it and made it into Hope Week rather than Hope Day.”
Lincoln Southwest plans to celebrate Hope Week every year with the help of Hope Squad.
