Throughout the spring, Hive Helpers will be helping with the hydroponic garden in the culinary room and will be prepping for Earth Week. Hive Helpers have been planting plants in the hydroponic garden that are edible so the culinary classes and club at Lincoln Southwest can use them for cooking.
“We are growing a variety of things like purple spinach, basil and a bunch of pretty flowers,” junior Charlie Rader said. “It was fun teaching people to plant plants together and help the environment.”
Hive Helpers are planning to hand out packets for Earth Week from Monday, Apr. 22 to Friday, Apr. 27. The packets will include information cards about Earth Week and seed bookmarks so other people can help participate.
“People will be able to participate in Earth Week just by trying to do things to help protect the environment,” freshman Autumn Lamoree said. “If someone sees a piece of trash outside, people could help by just picking it up. Simple things like these can help.”
Hive Helpers’ next meeting date will be Thursday, Feb. 22 from 3:15 P:M. – 4:00 P:M. in room A105.
