On Friday, April 1, the Genders and Sexualities Alliance Club held its first meeting in B203 after school.

“I formed the GSA after conversations were had with students who felt there was a rise in homophobia and transphobia at Lincoln Southwest,” senior Dominic Sander said. “I thought this would be a great way to come together and show students that they are not alone and shouldn’t face these attacks on their own.”

The club hopes to spread acceptance throughout the school.

“Hopefully sometime next year we can start adding advocacy to our club,” Sander said. “It would be helpful to start advocating for inclusivity and fighting against the homophobia and transphobia faced by many of our students. No one should feel alone just because they aren’t cisgender or heterosexual.”

Members of the club meet every Friday to make friends to help build a community of love and acceptance.

“I liked how inviting everyone was,”  senior Danielle Manning said. “I also liked how it was a relaxed conversation where we got to know everyone.”

On Friday, April 8, the club hung up posters for Pride Prom which will be taking place on April 28 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Lincoln East High School. Tickets will be $5 for all Lincoln Public Schools students.

The club will be meeting next on Thursday, April, 14 in B203 after school.
