On Wednesday, Feb. 21, LSW design students attended the Student Night of Omaha Fashion Week, at the Omaha Design Center. This was the second year Southwest students got to attend the show which focuses on themes of reckless self-expression during the week long event.
“We are very thankful we have been able to take about 12 students for the last two years,” family and consumer sciences teacher Ms. Elizabeth Griffith said. “We have not had to say no to anyone from the Southwest who has shown interest and they’re enrolled in a design class or have been in the past.”
This is the fifth year LPS has coordinated the event for students around the district. Design students rode up on a bus with other LPS students and dressed up to go out to dinner together before the event.
“Everyone was super supportive at the runway show,” sophomore Sydney Holsten said. “Some models came out looking nervous but after hearing everyone cheering for them they were getting a lot more confident.”
For many of the students, it was their first experience in a high fashion runway experience. Specifically, fashion that was being created by their peers of similar ages.
