The Freshman girls basketball team took their first loss of the season losing to Norfolk,  45-30 this past weekend.

After the first quarter, Norfolk lead 11-6 at halftime. Southwest trailed behind Norfolk 21-18. After the third quarter, Norfolk lead Southwest 33-24 and hung on to the end to secure the win.

With the loss to Norfolk they noticed areas where they do not do as well and could improve on.

“We could improve on our passes,” freshman Murphy Thompson said. “But other than that we are working very hard.”

They played their first game against Lincoln North Star on Dec. 11 and beat the Gators 29-21.

The team has developed strong relationships with one and another already this season.

“We get along really well, It’s fun going to practice with them” freshman Allison Walbrecht said. “You get to see friends you don’t get to see in the hallways.”

They’ve also noticed where they are strongest as a team.

“We are strongest at being really disciplined and just being good teammates,” freshman Murphy Thompson said. “And we’re also really hard workers.”

Their next game is on Jan. 7 at Southwest. They will play against Fremont High School at 7:15 pm.
