National Honor Society (NHS) has two tutoring programs at LSW. Students can either receive free tutoring from their LSW peers in a public and private setting or at Homework Hub.
NHS hosts tutoring in the Media Center every Tuesday from 2:03-3:03 p.m. Students do not have to make an appointment or fill out any forms to attend these sessions.
Students who desire one-on-one tutoring throughout the week must complete the tutor request form by 3 p.m. on Mondays. Students can receive help for subjects such as algebra, biology, French, chemistry, geoscience and more.
NHS created Homework Hub to provide extra help to students. Homework Hub has separate tutoring sessions for English, science and math. English tutoring is every Monday and Thursday after school at 4 p.m. in the Media Center. Science tutoring is in the A100 classroom every Monday and Thursday at 4 p.m. Math tutoring is also in the A100 classroom on Mondays and Wednesdays at 4 p.m.
“NHS tutoring is really important because it creates more accessible sources within our school. Students don’t have to pay for a tutor or try to find someone to meet outside of school,” senior Aubrey Bailey said. “As a senior I’ve already taken most of the classes that the underclassmen are taking, so tutoring is a good way for me to help our peers.”
Southwest sophomores, juniors and seniors can apply to be a tutor on the tutor application form. Students are not required to be a NHS member to apply.
“I like to tutor in NHS because I can use my knowledge to benefit other people directly in Southwest,” senior Olivia Wray said. “Our tutoring sessions are really convenient because other students can get new perspectives and learn more about new subjects.”
Students can email NHS co-tutoring chairs Olivia Wray and Kai Sasaki any questions.
