On Saturday, Nov. 11, the Lincoln Southwest speech team competed at Papillion La-Vista (Papio) and the debate team competed at Norfolk.
Speech placed third and debate won overall, with many individuals receiving awards as well.
In novice Lincoln-Douglas, freshman Jaida Amar was a semifinalist and Amar was also 6 place speaker.
“I felt surprised but also accomplished that I was so successful during this tournament,” Amar said. “I know I can do even better in the future.”
In speech, both novice and varsity helped in getting third at Papio, including freshman Danielle Ibe-Ikechi, who won novice Poetry.
“It was definitely very surreal to win my event because I didn’t expect to win. I did really bad in my first tournament,” Ibe-Ikechi said. “It was the motivation I needed to step up my game.”
