Southwest Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is hosting a book drive at Southwest. The book drive started on Monday, Dec. 11, and will end on Friday, Dec. 22. Students can donate their books at the front of the school in the Christmas themed bin labeled “book drive”. The FCCLA members are creating little free libraries in four different neighborhoods where the donated books will go.
“As everything is shutting down (for winter break), we wanted to make sure kids have access to literature and books,” junior Jada Frank said. “Being able to do a community event like this has been really rewarding.”
Every year in FCCLA, members are recognized for completing Student Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) events. Vice President Jack McCormick and STAR Officer Jada Frank have worked together to organize the book drive at Southwest for one of their STAR events.
“I think it’s important that all kids in Lincoln have access to books and reading at a young age,” junior Jack McCormick said. “FCCLA is special because a lot of our events during the year are service projects so it’s fun to do a lot of good things for Lincoln.”
