Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) celebrated ‘Go Green Week’ from Jan. 22 – 26. Go Green Week is a student-led initiative which focuses on spreading awareness on environmental issues. FBLA members hung up eco-friendly posters around the school to promote awareness on the importance of sustainability.
“I think it’s important to make people aware that (being eco-friendly) is something you can do and it’s not hard,” FBLA advisor Mr. Joshua Hinrichs said. “FBLA is not just about making people business-oriented, but also community-oriented.”
Every year members from the FBLA Leadership Team are divided into committees that work towards completing “ribbon” projects. FBLA chapters can earn ribbons from doing up to eleven community-based projects through March. If all ribbon projects are completed, the chapter gains recognition at the FBLA State Conference held in April. Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Autumn Stock runs the Go Green committee which is also responsible for this event.
“Something I like about my committee is how so many people get to be involved from FBLA and how the entire school gets impacted by the posters and announcements,” junior Autumn Stock said. “I think it’s important for our generation to start these projects and be more eco-friendly because our planet isn’t getting any healthier, so it’s important to spread awareness on how we impact our planet.”
FBLA will celebrate the event at their next chapter meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 7:15 a.m. by wearing green to the meeting.
