On Friday, March 22, all LSW students will have a shortened day because of the State Debate Tournament.
LSW will have 18 students competing at State Debate in three different events, Lincoln Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate and Congressional Debate.
“This tournament is different from most tournaments we go to because the entire team does not compete, just the selected state team,” Mrs. Toni Heimes said. “Typically, this tournament falls on Spring Break, but this year it did not, which led to the 1:03 p.m. dismissal time.”
Students were first informed in an email that Matzen sent out on Monday, Feb. 26, and then again told on Monday, March 19, during the morning announcements.
“While filling out my personal schedule, I saw that I have a practice that would have been during the school day and was confused until I heard the morning announcements,” junior Sophie Johnson said. “After my practice, I will probably just chill for the weekend.”
Some ways students will spend their extra time are studying, hanging out with friends or participating in an activity.
“There is a track meet right after school that day so I will be either helping out or running an event,” junior Megan Baugh said. “If I didn’t have a meet, I would probably do some extra studying.”
All blocks will be an hour long with the exception of block zero which will remain 45 minutes.
