On Saturday, Oct. 19, Southwest will be hosting their annual Craft Fair from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The admission is $2. The Craft Fair is held in the commons of Lincoln Southwest.
“The $2 fee goes toward Silver Hawk Theatre,” junior Avery Runestad said. “In the morning, before the Craft Fair, we take shifts to help the vendors get all of their stuff inside.”
Southwest Theatre organizes the Craft Fair every year to raise money for their productions. The students help everyone get set up in the morning before the fair.
Many Southwest individuals are involved in the Craft Fair in different ways. Mrs. Toni Heimes, Mr. Kevin Hennecke and Mrs. Melissa Beard are all teachers at LSW that sell their own personal creations such as Christmas decor, pottery and wooden tables. LSW’s Forensics team and Hive Helpers club, the environmental club, will have booths of their own.
“Last year, Hive Helpers had a booth and they sold lip balm, but there are vendors from all around that don’t go to Southwest,” Runestad said. “Most of the booths are things that you would see at the farmers market.”
Hive Helpers sells handmade products to raise money for their garden purchases. Speech and Debate provides a bake sale as well as running concessions to raise money for their competition season. Along with all of the students involved in these clubs, students around Southwest have taken the opportunity to showcase their own craft. Junior Kaz Zuchenga owns their own crochet business.
“I did not have a booth last year, but I went to the craft fair and I looked around and bought some crochet stuffed animals,” Zuchenga said. “This year, I am selling a bunch of different plushies that I made.”
Other vendors will have homemade goods, jewelry, crochet and baking. For any questions about the event, individuals can email [email protected].
