The esports team went to Wayne State University on Friday, Nov. 17, to compete in a bracket championship tournament against multiple schools. The schools played each other in the video game, “Clash Royale”, in a best of three series until one school remained. Southwest took sophomore Ezra Erickson, sophomore Jakub Bunstock and senior Jason Jiang to the tournament and they were able to place third at the competition.
“It was a great experience. There were so many nice people and the venue was amazing,” Bunstock said. “I think the bond between us (teammates) has gotten stronger especially because we went from strangers to really close friends through the competition and through all our matches throughout the season.”
The esports team has been preparing for this tournament by meeting in C204 every Thursday after school to run practice “Clash Royale” games against each other and other schools.
“Playing the game has challenged me because seeing as how every game is different, I’ve had to learn how to adapt to a constantly evolving type of play,” Erickson said. “To win next time, we can try to use the connections we made with other schools to be able to scrimmage more and learn more about play.”
