The bi-annual Electronic Recycle Drive takes place Saturday, April 20, from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m in Southwest visitors parking lot.
Star City Recycling will recycle all the materials and securely deconstruct them. Any sensitive and important information on the device should be removed prior to the event.
“If you have a broken curling iron for example, Star City Recycling will dispose of it so you don’t have to,” Mrs. Alyssa Wilhelm said. “Instead of filling up our landfills with stuff that has some hazardous chemicals, people can bring it to an event like ours where other people will take care of those materials appropriately.”
Profits will go towards Southwest’s fine arts program.
“There’s a lot of items that are really damaging to the environment and have to be disposed of in a certain way like TVs for instance,” Mr. Jacob Fahrlander said. “This event provides an opportunity to get rid of those things for a pretty cheap cost. Anywhere you go you have to pay for recycling, but it’ll be cheaper at the drive and it’ll go towards our fine arts program.”
People without any devices to recycle can still participate in this event. Everyone can help out by taking devices out of others’ cars and loading them onto Star City Recycling’s truck.
“Over Spring Break, people might have done some spring cleaning and want to get rid of their trash, so we are inviting them to bring it down to the Recycle Drive,” Wilhelm said. “It’s a fun event where you get to meet lots of people and help the environment at the same time.”
All are welcome and advised to drop off any old and broken devices at Southwest. The next Electronic Recycle Drive will take place some time in September of 2024.
