Auditions for the 2024-25 school year choirs are taking place after the winter concert on Dec 11. The audition includes a descending scale, pitch matching, sight reading, rhythm clapping and a prepared piece of music that students will have to learn themselves on their own time.
“The purpose of this audition is to really just assess all of the different musicians at Southwest and see their progress over the last semester and how they’ve been improving from where they started,” freshman choir president Hawk Emdad said. “Students have to take a lot of time to study for these different tests.”
Students will be able to practice the audition by using the tracks put on Google Classroom.
“The choir audition is a way for us to evaluate the various skill levels of our singers,” Southwest choir director Dr. Marci DeAmbrose said. “Mr. (Andrew) Jacobson and myself have created an objective rubric that determines which students are ready for the Varsity level.”
