On Monday, Nov. 13, for the first time in the 2023-24 school year, there were no announcements to be made at the start of the school day at Lincoln Southwest.
Principal John Matzen was absent, so associate principal Mr. Brett Schuster read the announcements instead.
“I was surprised by the lack of announcements but I wasn’t too worried,” Schuster said. “Fall sports are coming to a close and winter sports haven’t quite gotten started yet, so there’s just not much going on right now.”
There was so little going on, that Schuster was not even given a script. The only comment he added was to wish winter sports well as tryouts begin today.
“There’s always something to say,” senior Maryam Mashfi said. “So it’s odd that today there would be nothing.”
Most notable was the absence of the alliteration closure typically associated with Matzen’s announcements. Usually at the end of the day, Matzen will say something along the lines of “Have a marvelous Monday.”
