Lincoln Southwest is hosting prom on Saturday, April 20, for all juniors and seniors to attend. Located in the counseling center, Southwest provides a prom closet with dresses and tuxedos for students at Southwest.
The goal of the prom closet is to give students who may not have any dresses or tuxedos to wear to prom a chance to wear one for free given by Southwest or people around the Lincoln community.
The prom closet started eight years ago and has continued to provide prom clothing to students.
“The prom closet gives students the opportunity to get prom formal,” junior Emma Lee said. “Students can also get prom accessories as well.”
Finding something to wear at prom can take a long time and can be very expensive. Students and staff are able to help students who are not able to purchase prom clothing by bringing their old dresses or tuxedos anytime before the day of prom to Southwest.
“Most of the prom attire is donated from the Southwest High alumni,” counselor Mrs. Amanda Tomes said. “Some of the donations also come from people around the Lincoln community”
If you would like to participate in donating to the prom closet, you can bring old dresses or tuxedos to Southwest for others to have a chance to experience prom in traditional attire.
