Auditions for “A Christmas Carol” are coming up on Tuesday, Oct. 7 and Wednesday, Oct. 8. On Tuesday, the auditions are at 3:30 p.m. and on Wednesday at 6 p.m.. Students can sign up for either date for their audition. Before their audition, students must fill out the audition packet with their info and make the directors aware of any conflicts they may have. During the auditions, students have to perform a monologue and sing a Christmas song. Anyone is welcome to audition for the show, the directors are always looking for new performers.
“They just need to come in and be willing to take risks. That’s the big thing I push on,” Director Austyn McKee said. “Yes, they need to prepare, but we really need to see some acting from them and the ability to come in willing to work.”
Students can get involved in other ways than being in the show. They can sign up for the tech crew and handle the behind-the-scenes work. The tech crew involves various crews such as lighting, scenery, props, makeup, sound, publicity, costumes and special effects.
“The tech crew is looking for any and every student who’s willing to put in the work,” junior Joshua Carl said. “Anyone who’s willing to commit to a solid schedule and make sure the show is the best it can be.”
All of the things the tech crew does contributes to the overall production of the show. Students also have to fill out a packet and a conflict sheet for the tech crew. Both packets are available online on the Silver Hawk Theatre website.
“I think that anyone should get involved in our theatre in any capacity,” assistant director Brandi Benson said. “If you love to act, it’s a wonderful facility. If you don’t really want to be on stage and you want to help with props, scenery, or any other stuff, we’re always looking for people on tech crew.”
Anyone and everyone is welcome to sign up to audition or join the tech crew. No prior experience in acting, singing or doing anything backstage is needed to join. Lincoln Southwest’s theatre program has something for everyone who wants to participate.
