There are 10 focus programs available to the students of LSW. Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC), Arts and Humanities, Science Focus, Early College and Career Stem, Bryan College of Health Sciences, Bay High, Nebraska Business, The Career Academy (TCA), Aviation and Technical Education and International Baccalaureate are programs that help students explore new passions and match their skills with global opportunities. Students can learn more about the focus programs on Spring Info Night on Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. at The Career Academy located on 8800 O St.
“The focus programs can be a great opportunity for students because they can earn college credits,” school counselor Ms. Amanda Tomes said. “For some students the focus programs are a better fit because they offer smaller environments, they teach through a different lens and can be more fulfilling for them.”
TCA is the only focus program with 14 individual career pathways. At TCA, students can look into academic transfer, bioscience, business, construction, criminal justice, culinary, early childhood education, engineering, health sciences, human services, information tech, K-12 education, precision machining and welding. The tuition for each pathway costs $58.50 per credit hour. However, students on free and reduced lunch receive assistance for tuition.
“TCA gives students a better understanding of a career for a cheaper price and you get to meet people that have the same passions as you from various backgrounds,” junior Sophie Wilder said. “I joined TCA because I have always loved to cook. I have also always been interested in owning a cafe, and figured why don’t I just start now.”
All of these focus programs have different requirements regarding GPA, grade level and attendance. Students can learn more about all the focus programs on the LPS Focus Programs website.
