Sabrina Carpenter has become a pop sensation in recent years as she released songs like “Feather,” “Nonsense,” and “Espresso” which all became massive as soon as their release. On Monday, June 3, 2024, she officially announced her sixth album “Short N’ Sweet.”

Previously, on Thursday, April 11, 2024, Carpenter released “Espresso,” which later became the lead single for her sixth studio album. The moment the song hit the charts it quickly rose to the top and stayed there for five consecutive weeks. “Espresso” contained catchy lyrics like, “I’m working late, cause I’m a singer” which got stuck in everyone’s head after its release.

Many people on social media were lip-syncing to the song and showing off their beachy and summery style to match the theme of the song. Not too long after the release of the song, the music video came out. 

Later in the year, on Thursday, June 6, 2024, Carpenter released the next single off of “Short N’ Sweet,” “Please, Please, Please.” The title was a play on lyrics from “Espresso” where she said “I can’t relate to desperation” which many caught onto fast. Soon after the release of the song, Carpenter released the music video which was a continuation of her “Espresso” music video. The video starred the actor, now ex-boyfriend, Barry Keogan, who played in movies like “Saltburn,” “Eternals,” and “The Batman.” The video features Carpenter and Keogan as a pair of criminals, like Bonnie and Clyde. I felt like this music video was a hard-launch to her relationship and it was a perfect song to do it for because she’s telling him not to embarrass her or ruin her reputation. The song’s growing popularity led it to stay on the charts for 3 consecutive weeks.

Then finally, On Friday, August 23, 2024, Carpenter released her sixth studio album “Short N’ Sweet” after teasing it for months. Following the release she announced the music video for her third single off the album called “Taste” starring Jenna Ortega. The music video starred Carpenter, as an obsessive ex, and Ortega, as the current girlfriend trying to get rid of her. Many, including myself, think this music video is bringing light to the drama circulating around Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, and Shawn Mendes. This is because Jenna Ortega is dressed in outfits similar to ones that Camilla Cabello has worn in the past, along with this the male actor in the video has a strong resemblance to Shawn Mendes.  

Many songs on Carpenter’s album “Short N’ Sweet” are speculated to be about the love triangle. Some songs include “Coincidence”, “Dumb & Poetic”, and of course “Taste” because they talk follow the themes of people getting back together after they both said they moved on. Carpenter also explored many different genres throughout the album like country, R&B, and pop. Carpenter uses these elements to create an album that exudes a fun and light energy with a beachy and summery vibe.

Many people think it’s called “Short N’ Sweet” because Carpenter is only 5′ 0, others think the length of the album has something to do with the name. However, Carpenter said herself that the album is called “Short N’ Sweet” because she found that some of her shortest relationships affected her the most.

Sabrina Carpenter can write lyrics that many would deem cringeworthy or bad, but she presents them with such suaveness that makes them amusing. This album explores the dramas of Carpenter’s life while also leaving room for it to be funny and self-deprecating in a way.
