The Lincoln Southwest boys JV basketball team played Pius X on Thursday, Jan. 19. The Hawks lost to the Thunderbolts 74-57.

“We played our hearts out for the first two quarters of the game, but unfortunately they got the jump on us the last two quarters and they took the lead,“Junior Carson Wogahn said. “We worked hard as a team and fought hard and tough during the fourth quarter. Even though we didn’t win, we did good as a team and couldn’t be prouder as a player.”

The Hawks were led by Wogahn who scored 11 points. Other players who helped out Southwest included freshman Makkiah Sanders who had 11 points as well as four assists and three rebounds.

“These players played their hearts out as a team, even knowing we could have gotten more rebounds and stayed in the lead. Our players did a good job and put their all into the game and practices. We wouldn’t be the way we are without these players, “Sanders said.

With the loss, the Hawks advanced to 3-2 on the season Up next, Southwest will play Lincoln Northeast on Feb. 3 taking place at Lincoln Northeast. Tip off is set for 5:45 p.m.
