The PSAT will be taking place on Saturday Oct. 16 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lincoln Southwest.

Students must register for the test by visiting Whitney Franklin, the Counseling Center secretary, and paying the $30 registration fee.

Any junior or sophomore can take the test, but will need to sign up by Oct. 8 or until all spots are taken.

“If students do well enough, they can qualify for the Merit Scholarship program where they can earn different amounts of money,” school counselor Amanda Tomes said. “Also, if students want to go to a school on the east or west coast they will probably need to take the actual SAT so this is great practice.”

All juniors will be considered for the Merit Scholarship program and sophomores will only be considered for this program if they retake the test their junior year.

“I’m excited to take the test,” sophomore Sammie Whitt said. “I’m hoping it will help me be better prepared for the actual SAT.”

There are several dates to sign up for the SAT test and students can make an account to access the College Board website in order to register for one of those dates.
