On Thursday, Sep. 5, Lincoln Southwest varsity volleyball team defeated the Kearney Bearcats in a 3-2 thriller at Southwest.

“The team worked together really well because we were in sync with one another,” sophomore Courtney Holsteen said. “We were trusting each other, and we were saying positive things about one another.”

Kearney took set one with a score of 25-17, and the Hawks took the second and third set, 25-19 and 25-15. The Bearcats edged their way to win set four, 25-16. In the final set, Southwest claimed victory, 17-15.

“We definitely had a little bit of a rough start, but I think we started to relax and started working together as a team,” senior Lizzie Ehlers said. “We communicated a lot more and worked together and it was part of the reason we won.”

The next game for the Hawks is on Thursday, Sep. 12 at 6:30 p.m. against Omaha Westside at Southwest High School.
