The Lincoln Southwest boys varsity basketball team will face off against the top ranked Class A team in the state, Lincoln Pius X, on Friday, Jan. 10, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln Southwest High School.

The Hawks will look to continue their momentum against the Thunderbolts after the team’s 56-46 win against Norfolk on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020.

“We are just going to continue to keep the energy high,” said sophomore guard Jared Bohrer. “I think energy will be a key [against Pius X], from the people on the bench or diving on the floor for a loose ball.”

This will not be an easy task, as the top ranked Pius X Thunderbolts are undefeated this season, and are the 2019-20 Heartland Athletic Conference (HAC) tournament champions.

Pius X is led by senior Kolbe Rada and the newly added twins, and sons of Nebraska men’s basketball head coach, Fred Hoiberg, juniors Sam and Charlie Hoiberg. The twins are transfers from Hinsdale High School located in Chicago, Illinois.

Sam and Charlie have both been big contributors for Pius X. Their most recent efforts against Lincoln North Star in the HAC tournament championship game Charlie scored 18 points and Sam added 16 points.

Southwest’s second leading scorer, senior Brayton Christensen, is not taking the Hoiberg brothers lightly and plans on the Silverhawks having a game plan for them.

“I think just contesting all of [the Hoiberg twins] shots and good help defense is important,” said Christensen. “Obviously, we’re not going to completely stop them, but we want to contain them a little bit.”

Lastly, if LSW students are planning to attend the inner-city matchup, the Southwest Fan Federation (SFF) announced on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, the student section’s theme for the game will be “Jersey.”
