The LSW Varsity show choir placed second at the Midwest Cup this past weekend. Mr. Andrew Jacobson, director of show choir, was proud of how much the team has grown. “We were extremely pleased and their performances merited more celebrating than what placement gave us,” Jacobson said.

One of the Varsity show choir presidents, senior Violet Hudson, said that what she most enjoys about being in show choir is performing.

“I especially love being up on stage in front of people who’ve never seen your show before.” Hudson said. “Our group is together a lot, and we have class everyday.”

Hudson also had a solo during the Midwest Cup.

“I’m really proud of how far we’ve come, especially compared to last year, we just left feeling a lot more motivated.” Hudson said.

While students like Hudson are on the stage, there are several students behind the scenes. Freshman Emily Thoming joined show choir crew because of how much she likes the people.

“You get to travel with the teams and it’s like you have your own little second family,”

Thoming said. “Normally people have costume changes and stuff. I actually get to be on stage with them I get to hide in a whole bunch of black clothing.”

Jacobson has been running the LSW show choir program since 2010.

“This is one of the most enjoyable years in show choir i’ve ever had,” Jacobson said. “The program is a great place for growth and teamwork. I suggest all students at southwest to explore all activities and extracurriculars. There are a bunch of different mediums for kids to connect with other students but also learn parts about themselves they may not have even known.”

Southwest will be competing at Millard West Music Lives on January 19th.
