DECA is currently holding a food drive called the Southwest Food Fight. It started on Oct. 15 and will be going until Nov. 2.

The club is accepting any non-perishable foods like, canned fruits, vegetables, cereal and peanut butter. They are also accepting personal care items such as things like unused toothbrushes. There are drop off bins located around school for students to drop their food items in.

“We try and get as many cans and personal care items as we can,” senior Mili Samal said. “It all goes to the Lincoln Food Bank.”

The food drive is a competition for the Lincoln DECA branches. Each of the items donated has points. The schools all compete to see who can get the most points.

“We team up with the other clubs to get more food,” junior Kylie Sabo said. “This year we partnered up with student council, and in years past, theater has helped us.”

DECA does this to help out Lincoln and the children and families who need food and shelter.

“Every year we do the food drive because it really benefits our community,” club leader and teacher Christina Carothers said. “There are a lot of families in need and we get to help them.”
