The Lincoln Southwest boys varsity basketball team lost an inner-city match up against the top ranked Class A team in the state, Lincoln Pius X, 47-56 on Fri. January 10, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln Southwest High School.

The Hawks came out with a strong start in the first quarter, led by sophomore guard, Jared Bohrer, and were leading after the first quarter 16-15.

“This week we all had a hard week of practice,” said  Bohrer. “We focused on defense a lot and definitely drilled that in the whole week… I think that helped a lot.”

However, LSW was unable to hold that lead due to a strong second quarter by Pius X where the Hawks were out scored 19 to 11 and the Thunderbolts went to half with a 27-s34 lead.

The Thunderbolts held this lead the rest of the game and won the game 47-56.

“I think we knew with Pius X we had to stop the drives and get stops,” said LSW’s head boys basketball coach, Alex Bahe. “Unfortunately we got stops but just could not convert on the offensive end.”

Southwest will now look forward to a match-up with Grand Island on Sat. January 11, 2020, at 5:15 from Lincoln Southwest High School.
