On Feb. 14, the Lincoln Southwest theatre department held their annual flower sales. Students got a note delivered to their second block class if they were given a flower. After school on Valentine’s Day, the theatre department handed out roses and carnations to students who received them in the theatre hallway.

From Feb. 1 – 11, students could purchase flowers for a person of their choice and write a note to them. Roses were $5 and carnations were $3.

“I think that you should do something nice for your friends,” freshman Mackenzie Bolton said. “It’s nice knowing that someone is willing to spend money on you.”

This fundraiser was for the theatre department to help fund the trip to the International Thespian Festival in Bloomington, Indiana, where they were selected to perform Kinky Boots the week of June 20 through the 26.

“I enjoyed handing out Valentine’s Day flowers because it’s a mix of my two favorite things: Valentine’s Day and theatre,” senior Michaela Boyd said. “We didn’t hand them out last year because of COVID, and it was great to see everyone so happy.”

Many students and staff received flowers on Valentine’s Day.
