On Feb. 18 and Feb. 20, The Lincoln Southwest cheer and dance teams competed in Grand Island at the NCA High School State Cheer and Dance Competition.

On Thursday, the cheer team competed in their gameday and traditional routine. They received a 0.5 deduction for their gameday routine and placed 8th. For traditional, they got a three-point deduction and placed 7th.

“I am just proud of how close our team was,” junior Meghan Hammond said. “It was just hard to keep a positive mindset about the competition.”

On Saturday, the dance team competed in their pom and high kick routines. For their high kick performance there were no deductions and they took home the trophy for first place. For pom, they got zero deductions and placed 10th.

“My favorite part about State is finally getting to show off what we have been working on this entire season,” senior Izzy Hung said. “The hardest part is all the practices that we have but it really pays off.”

Both teams will start their 2022-2023 season with cheer tryouts beginning March 28 and Emerald tryouts beginning March 21.
