Southwest basketball’s Senior Night will take place on Saturday, Feb. 12. The Southwest boys varsity team will take on Omaha Northwest at Lincoln Southwest at 5:15 p.m.

Eight seniors will be honored before the game.

Blake Waring, Ben Hunzeker, Grant Mielak, Jamison Focht, Scott Nolte, Dillon Riedmiller, Giet Giet and James Ahlstedt will all take the court one last time for the Hawks.

“Playing for Southwest has been fun,” senior Giet Giet said. “My favorite moments would probably be freshmen year, just team dinners and bonding before games.”

Against Columbus on Feb. 4, Giet scored two points while pulling down five rebounds to help his team to a 64-35 win.

So far on the season the team is 11-7 overall and 8-5 in league play.

“I’ve created many friendships,” senior James Ahlstedt said. “Being top 10 in the state is something that I’ve enjoyed experiencing.”

Ahlstedt scored two points against Columbus while pulling down two rebounds and two assists.

“We have a very unique set of seniors because I think there is an exceptional amount of togetherness in the group,” coach Alex Bahe said. “We have guys like Ben (Hunzeker), Jamison (Focht) and Grant (Mielak) who we can rely on playing a lot of minutes and do a lot of things on the floor. We also have an energy guy in James Ahlstedt, we have a coach type on the bench with Giet Giet. Then we have Blake Waring and Scott Nolte who really push our top guys and starters all the time because of how good of players they are. Then lastly we have Dillon Reidmiller who has been with us for 3 or 4 years and he just got surgery this year and he has been a crucial part of our team. There is just a wide variety of leadership on our team.”
