Over the past weekend, the varsity wrestling team competed at the District meet at Lincoln East. The team had eight wrestlers qualify for State.

Sophomores Hunter Jacobsen and Jacob Snow, juniors Kash Bates, Garrett Morgan, Jack Baptista and Cooper Jackson and seniors Everett Swartz and Braxton Peters all qualified.

“It was a pretty good feeling for me,” sophomore Hunter Jacobsen said. “I expected myself to make it to state so I just had to show up and compete.”

Jacobsen was the District Champion in the 120 weight division.

The team in total had three District Champions, Jacobsen, Bates and Jackson.

“I was pretty happy especially because I was the underdog in the situation,” senior Braxton Peters said. “ I had already lost to the guy that I was wrestling once before, so I had to go into the match knowing I had to beat him to go to state.”

Peters was a top five finish in his weight class along with Swartz, Baptista, Morgan and Snow.

The State Tournament will begin Thursday, Feb. 17 at 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m and continue on Friday, Feb. 18 from 8:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, Feb.19 from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
