The Lincoln Southwest boys varsity basketball team plays fellow Heartland Athletic Conference member Grand Island High School at home with tipoff at 5:15.

“We are definitely going to come out with that ‘attack’ mindset,” said sophomore guard Jared Bohrer. “We just need to fix our mistakes… especially on the defensive end.”

The Hawks will have a tough defensive assignment as well. The Islanders are led by 6’ 8” senior, Them Koang, who has proven to be one of the top basketball players in Class A this year. Koang averages 19.2 points per game and 10.1 rebounds per game, and he is coming off a 21 point performance against Kearney High School.

This will be a challenge for the Silverhawks as the tallest player on the team’s roster is 6’ 5”.

“[Grand Island] is a tough and completely different matchup from [Pius X, LSW’s most recent opponent],” said Southwest’s head basketball coach, Alex Bahe. “They got a 6’ 8” big that we’re going to have a lot of trouble with on the block… it will be a good challenge for this team.”

In addition, the girls varsity basketball team will also be in action against GI with tip off at 3:00 from ‘The Nest’ for fans looking to support both boys and girls basketball teams.
