The Varsity girls basketball team fell 41-42 to Millard North this past Sat. December 14, 2019 in the rematch of the 2019 Class A State Championship game.
Southwest’s 62-52 loss to Millard North in the state title game last season motivated the Hawks to come out and avenge their loss.
“We all really wanted to win,” senior center Kate Johnson said. “They are a top 10 team in the state and after playing them last year [at state] we knew they would be tough.”
Due to a late fourth quarter comeback from the Mustangs, Millard North prevailed again. The Mustangs were led by senior point guard, Nicole Avila-ambrosi, with 15 points.
Despite the disappointing performance, the Lady Hawks are keeping in mind that their biggest goals are still in place and focusing on what they need to do to prepare for the rest of the season.
“Obviously we did not finish the game how we wanted,” junior guard Kate Dilsaver said. “But we know the end goal is the end of this year at state…. We just need to move forward and focus our next two games.”
Up next for the Hawks is a rivalry game at home against Lincoln Southeast Knights on Fri. December 20, 2019. The following day they will be playing number one ranked Millard South at 1:30 on Saturday at Millard South High School.
