The book drive takes place in Southwest all of February. Students can donate unused journals and new/gently used books.

Throughout February, Southwest students can donate unused journals, notebooks and new/gently used books to the book drive organized by members of National Honor Society, seniors Milana Doné and McKenna DeRiese. All collected journals and books will be donated to the Child Advocacy Center.

“This is a wonderful project,” sponsor Brandi Benson said. “The Child Advocacy Center is a wonderful place to donate to and books and journals will help their organization so much.”

All collected books for younger children and chapter books will be used in waiting rooms at the Child Advocacy Center. Journals and notebooks will be given to children during therapies or counseling to work with at home.

“It’s just a really good organization because it helps kids that either aren’t in a good situation or just need someone else to talk to or someone else to turn to,” Doné said. “So I think it’s really important to help kids that meyby feel forgotten”

There are four places around the school where students can donate books. There is one  box in front of the school by the security office, one in the back of the commons right by the theatre, one in the media center and one upstairs in the middle hallway next to the business TPC (C201).

A donation bin is located upstairs next to the business TPC.

“I really like the book drive just because everyone has books that they can bring,” Doné said. “There are always books or notebooks that you don’t use anymore or you just kinda forget that they are there. So it’s something easy, but something that will really help other people.”
