It’s a good idea to study amidst the upcoming ACT test, and guide books are a great tool for that.

On April 5, Lincoln Southwest High School will be hosting ACT exams for juniors from 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Only juniors are required to attend.

MyACT account creation is required to participate and can be done at my.act.org. MyACT help sessions occur on March 24 from 3:15 p.m. – 4:00 p.m in the commons. If students have any questions about where they should be or what they should do, contact a counselor or ask a teacher.

“My advice for anyone taking the ACT is basically that you can stress yourself out too much,” Principal John Matzen said. “Going in and doing your best and using that the first time you take the ACT is a good way to kind of explore what your strengths are and what aren’t.”

Juniors may only bring #2 pencils and a permitted calculator. Drinks and snacks are not permitted. Backpacks and phones will be confiscated or dropped off at the front office if brought on campus. A break will be possible in the middle of the session, and snacks may be provided.

The ACT involves four sections of academics plus a bonus writing portion: English, reading, mathematics and science. The academic areas make up a total of 36 points, the writing area will be scored out of 12 points.

“The hardest section might be the writing portion,” junior Justin Devoogd said. “If not I’d say the hardest would be English because all the answers are so similar.”
